2018 marks as the third year in production for the VB STI. We know what makes this car fast as the EJ remains as the soul powerplant for the STI. Enthusiasts on a worldwide scale are making the sound of their people through cat-back exhaust systems, blow-off valves, while being strong contenders at local weekend track events. However, because noises are what makes a turbocharged vehicle more appealing to drive, we need to remember that this all-wheel-drive platform needs to brake properly, and stay on the safer side of things.
For those of you who have pushed the limits of your factory brake pads, you can move onto a more aggressive compound. The Stoptech Posiquiet Front Brake Pads can endure more heat at your local autocross, but still remains a low noise, low dust compound that makes them daily friendly. Another great way to upgrade your calipers is to install Faction Fab Stainless Steel Brake Lines because unlike the OEM rubber lines, stainless steel examples will not expand under pressure, delivering a faster response from the brake pedal straight to the calipers. And when you do upgrade to stainless steel brake lines, make sure you bleed your brakes with an appropriate brake fluid such as the Motul RBF 660 Brake Fluid that has a higher boiling point to prevent any air gaps to develop during harsher braking conditions at the track. Upgrading your brake system on your STI is something you should always consider to maintain the performance and safety of your rally-inspired AWD Subaru.
