A Coating That Takes Care of Itself

This kit's rotors are finished with EBC's Thermic Black coating, an anti-corrosion treatment for long-term rust resistance that does not need to be removed before installation. The coating wears away naturally in the pad-swept area within the first 10 to 20 stops after the rotor goes into service, so there's nothing extra to do before driving. Do not use brake cleaner or any other method to strip the coating manually, since that's simply unnecessary. It's the kind of detail EBC backs up with actual testing rather than just claims.

One Important Installation Rule

EBC is explicit that upgrade pads should never be fitted to only the rear of a vehicle unless the same upgrade is also fitted to the front, since mismatched front-to-rear brake bias can create unpredictable handling under hard braking. Attempting to remove the Thermic Black coating with brake cleaner or any other method outside of normal driving is also not covered under EBC's warranty. Following these two simple rules keeps both the coating and your brake bias working as intended. That's worth keeping in mind whether you're upgrading proactively or replacing a worn part.
