Boomba Short Throw Shifter / 031-00-001 Fits

Just like everyone says, the install will take a good amount of time. I did mine in my garage on some ramps and it took me probably 4 hours in total. If you watch the video subispeed has on youtube while doing every part of the install it is seriously so easy. The longest part for me was re-assembling everything. Driving is way better and shifts are way shorter than the stock shifter. This product is amazing.
Easier than expected, and results were amazing
This install was surprisingly straightforward. Much easier than the boomba short shifter transmission plate because there was no hard nuts and bolts to get to. Everything has easy access, just make sure to take pictures of the shift assembly if your worried about not knowing how to put it back together. I installed the boomba short shift transmission plate and boomba short throw shifter at the same time. Once the install was all said and done I was smiling the whole time while i was testing out the new set up. The throws were surprisingly short and with the help of the new shifter plate, very smooth. The shifter is angled slightly towards the drive which puts it in a more natural, more comfortable position. Truly enjoyed this little detail. Overall it is well designed and a great product. Make sure you have the right tools and this install is very simple.. tedious yes, hard no. Will truly change the characteristics of your car.
completely different feel. really nice
Exactly What This Sloppy Gearbox Needed
I saw that this product only had 4 out of 5 stars, which is bullcrap. Yes, the install sucked and took a while, but was so worth it.You put in a short shifter, not an engine swap. I did this in a driveway in the rain on some jack stands. No need to knock down a products review because you're not good installing parts in the garage. I also installed the shifter stop and bushing kit, made a world of difference and made the car drivable again. If you have the stock shift set up, but all three. You won't be disappointed.
So I just installed my Boomba short throw shifter and man... This thing is awesome! Install was actually pretty straight forward and simple I didn't have any issues at all. As long as you equip yourself with the correct tools you're good to go and the subispeed video makes it easy. Also have the Perrin shifter bushing and the Perrin shifter stop and they all work great together. If you're thinking on grabbing the Boomba short shifter do it! You will thank yourself again and again.
Worth the time.
The install wasn't overly complicated but one tip I can save you some time and frustration on is to apply a bit of epoxy or jb weld to the upper surface of the 4 studs that are held in with a locking type washer( they are inherint for spinning). These particular studs are attached to the shifter assembly and have the nuts on the underside of the floor. The epoxy will keep them from spinning, obviously let it dry first. Other than that it's a great shifter and makes driving the car more fun. Just my 2 cents.
worth the suffering
this install is one of the biggest pains ever with that said the difference in shift feel makes it worth every penny and every minute (hour) it took to install
Awesome Product, Difficult Install
I really can't say enough about this short shifter. When I bought my 15 WRX one of the first things I noticed was that the throw was extremely long and the height of the shifter was frustratingly long. The install wasn't terrible. I just ran into troubles when one of the studs that you unbolt from the bottom ended up spinning in place. With no great way to grab onto it from the top I ended up having to drill it out. Aside from that the video on this page is really the only instructions that I could find (no instructions came in the box) and the video does not do a great job showing you how the shift assembly goes back together. Just take your time and basically watch the video in reverse. Over all I'm super happy with the boomba short shifter. It reduced the throw and the height dramatically.
Short Shifter installed on 2015 WRX
After installing this i was no longer able to use the Perrin shifter stop as this prevents 1st and 2nd gear. Next the OEM part the shifter sits in is plastic and the bolts rounded off inside the plastic. After install the OEM stop for 5th and 6th wont come close enough to rest of the shifter so you have to feel for 5th and 6th ...after a few days its not a big deal.
While the install is a PITA the work is worth the effort!
The install was as everyone says kind of a pain. The removal and installation were not that hard, however, I had the use of a lift. The only struggle I found was reassembling the entire shift assembly with the STS. Overall the shifting experience is much better! Shorter crisper throws, less movement in gear. Definitely worth the effort and you won't regret having it in your car once you are done!
