Subaru JDM OEM Console Hood with Red Stitching
It has been long known that the US models are downgraded far too often when vehicles make their way overseas. This item is a prime example of what should have been included on USDM models. Fortunately for the Subaru community, we can import this item directly from Japan, and into your hands.
The JDM console hood will replace that lackluster USDM piece with a larger covering that has a leather finish, and red stitching. This can be installed in no time, as it is a direct replacement for the original hood.
OEM VS JDM
This pictures illustrates the differences in sizes and finishes. The hood kit includes two pieces. The actual hood cover with its padded, leather like finish with red stitching and the larger mount which goes around display.

Just like the video...
This product was easy to install. As stated above, plastic trim tools work well in removing the panels. The cover goes well with my JDM arm rest. Thanks guys.
Like Putting Lipstick on a Pig... that has AWD
It looks absolutely beautiful.
Subtle, but well worth it!
The addition of this console is subtle to the unexpected eye, but will bring a higher level of quality to your interior as the rich leather and red stitching will match the rest of the interior. Well worth the investment.
Had to match the red stich armrest
Installation was straight foward, but like what other ppl said, use zip ties to pull the flat panel off. With that said, that'll save you time you'll never get back trying with your fingers and the numbness for days.(Kevin's fingers probably could put holes thru plywood) Huuuuge difference in aesthetic! I just had to match the sliding red stich armrest!
Very easy install and looks killer!
Definitely worth it!
This part does a great job of improving the overall appearance of the interior. I always thought the OEM console hood looked super cheap. This is much better! Install on my 17 STI was a little different than it is in the youtube video on this site, but still pretty easy.
First one came damaged unfortunately. Subispeed was on the ball with quickly getting me a replacement. I've always been amazed at how good they are with response time. Definitely recommend this product, always disliked the plastic OEM part. The installation was super simple following the video and using zip ties as handles to remove the plastic piece (pro tip thanks Calvin!). Overall took about 10minutes. I recommend getting some trim removal tools though.
Great fit and finish
Instal took about 30 mins. I used a plastic trim tool to get into the dash trim, zero scratching of dash/trim. As many people in other reviews mention, when taking off the OE hood then Boost gauge screen is attached. So you will need to unplug and unscrew it. Fit and finish is 100% perfect and it really makes the dash look 20 times better. It will be best $75 you ever spent.
Worth the effort of the install
Without the Subispeed video and Jayman's video, I'm not sure I would have felt comfortable putting so much effort into prying off the trim pieces. Without the confidence of watching others do it, I would have sworn I was going to break something. However, it all worked as carefully explained by everyone. I used plastic tire levers from my biking maintenance gear as a wedge/pry tool as I feel the flathead screwdriver would have gouged the living snot out of the trim, but results may vary. An actual trim removal tool would probably have been ideal. LOVE the final look. So silly this wasn't standard on the USDM limited trim.
Much better than stock!
That plastic black hood looked cheap. With this installed, it gives the interior a much more uniform look. Blends well with the steering wheel and seats. Installation was much easier than I was expecting. I was able to remove the panel containing the hazard switch without removing the stereo trim. For the flat piece in front of the hood, grab a small pair of blunt nose pliers. Was able to remove that panel pretty easily with that. Undo the screws for the hood, pull it out, disconnect the two harnesses on the back, unscrew the other two, and reverse procedure. Easy enough! Patience goes a long way here.
Was a little difficult to get the dash piece off but it was easy after that. Great fit and finish to complete the look of your dash. Highly recommended.
I watched the SubiSpeed video and looked at the instructions pictures since I can not read Japanese. Easy install took less than 10 mins and looks awesome. Trim came off pretty easy once I got it started just take your time.
Self install is definitely possible, the video helped a lot. The toughest part will be the top cover removal where I nearly gave up but an improvised cloth-cushioned pair of pliers helped to pull. It's an upgrade well-worth the effort.
Nice Upgrade and Much Better Looking
Another one of those parts that should have come on the car to begin with. MUCH better looking than the cheap plastic console cover! Install was a bit trickier than I thought but if you take your time and are careful you won't break anything. All in all a much better look and I am very happy with the upgrade. It matches the rest of the red stitched pieces in the car perfectly. The Subispeed install video is great but I found an easier way to remove the trim piece around the stereo. Instead of taking off the stereo trim piece from the side I used my fingers to pull it off at the top edge just above the vents (see 5min mark of this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hwc_IvxD59Q). It comes off really easy that way. The hardest part I had was removing the removing the plastic cover piece in front of the console (piece at 1 min 26 sec mark of the Subispeed video). I couldn't pull it off with my fingers so I used a small flathead screwdriver to very carefully and slowly pry it off from each side as I pulled up with my other hand.
Install is a little bit tough but you can handle it. Great look and nice leather feel
A little hard to install but easy if you take your time
the installation video that subispeed put up on YouTube shows you basically everything you need to know for a base model wrx. The harnesses are a pain, so I only removed the smaller two on the top and left the big one on the bottom for A/C controls plugged in and moved the trim piece off to the side. From there I used two zip ties as handles to remove the plastic piece that covers the two screws that hold the screen in place. I have a limited model and the hood was held onto the screen by two screws. Since I didn't want to unplug the harness for the gauge, I just patiently unscrewed the two screws that hold the oem hood onto the screen. Then all you have to do is install new hood (I didn't use the two screws when installing new hood because they were too short and not really needed anyway, screen stays in place with the two front screws) just snap everything back into place and you are done! Hope this helps someone. It was worth the $75 and you see it everyone you get into your wrx.
Nice Dress up
As advertised. As said above, the hood doesnt just come free from the LCD, have to disconnect harnesses and unscrew from hood.
A little harder to install than expected but such a great addition to the interior!
Well, I just installed it and it took me about 30-40 minutes because I had to go get a very short philips screw driver to take out the two screws that are attaching the hood bezel to the lcd displays. There is one odd thing that I found though, in the video when Kevin removes the existing hood, it's as if Subaru had forgotten to screw their screens to the hood bezel, I don't see any difference from there to a Limited and wonder why it is like that! Anyways, I didn't need to remove the wiring from the back of the displays to get to the screws like mentioned by Disch and Mike, with the short screwdriver it was possible to achieve that task. You DO WANT to pre tap the holes of the new bezel though, for easy install of the two screws because they will be pretty stiff to screw back in. I will submit some pics to SubiSpeed so you guys could see what is involved here! Oh and I love the red stitching and the 3/4" longer of the hood!!!
A little harder than expected but so beautifull

You DO WANT to pre tap the holes of the new bezel though for easy install of the two screws because otherwise, they will be pretty stiff to screw back in. And I do love the red stitching...one of the reasons I bought it! For the 'hard to remove plate', I used a couple of hard 1" wide spatulas on each side,,,so prying them up, the part suddenly poped out. I will submit some pics to SubiSpeed so you guys could see what is involved here!
Just as advertised
Disch's review pretty much nailed it, the LCD screen is bolted to the hood so you have to determ it, no big deal if you know that going in, Thanks Disch! Only thing I would add is that it helps to use a car door upholstery tool to loosen that plate that the video shows being so hard to remove. I carefully slipped the tool in between the bracket and the plate at each of the three clips, eventually it popped out. I like that extra 3/4" overhang most of all. But the red stitching looks out of place to me, there is none on the dash at any other location,
Installation tougher than expected, but worth it
I had a very difficult time removing a couple of the electrical harnesses, especially those behind the lcd display. The SubiSpeed instructional video shows the hood simply detaching from the lcd housing quite easily, but that was definitely not the case for me. I had to completely detach both the hood and lcd housing from the dash and, in doing so, disconnect the two electrical harnesses in the back in order to ultimately install the new hood. But after LOTS of patience I finally got it disconnected and installed....and the new hood looks mint....it totally should've come from the factory like this! Gives the interior a much more refined look. Go get one!
A final touch to the dash.
The piece of plastic that the cars come with sticks out like a sore thumb after you have seen this one. Installation was easy with a few hiccups explained above by Ditch. One detail to note is that this is actually about 3/4 inch longer which is great because it covers the screens a bit more making it easier to see with no reflections.
Great addition to interior
This is a simple, yet great addition to the interior of the '15 WRX. The leather-like interior with the red stitching is such a great look, but to have a big piece of plastic over the dash takes away from it. My one issue was with installation. I used the Subispeed installation video which was excellent. However, at the part where you remove the 2nd set of screws to remove the hood, I could not get my hood off. I watched the video over and over, and still couldn't get the hood loose from the bezel. To get around this, I disconnected the two harnesses behind the lcd and removed the entire unit. Then, I removed the two screws from the back and pulled the bezel off with the hood still attached. Then, I put the new bezel and hood together, screwed them to the lcd unit, reattached the harnesses, and put the dash back together as the video says. Other than that hurdle, everything was great! One more note: When I detached the harnesses from the LCD, I was thinking all of my setting would reset, but they did not. All I needed to do was set the date and time, but all of my other settings were still there.
Overall extremely satisfied with the hood
Although the video states that the 2 screws from the old hood get transfered to the new hood they are not just place holders. They are designed to hold the gage cluster in place. I received my new hood with a couple flaws. It was packaged in with several other parts I ordered and unprotected. The hood had a couple indentations in the leather from other products within the box. I am very pleased with the overall appearance. It is a much better looking product than the stock version. It should have been part of the STi package.
