UPGRADE TO THE TYPE RA SHORTBLOCK
For those of you who need a new short block but maybe don't have the time to have to go through the time it takes to rebuild your current engine, the OEM Subaru STI Type RA Short Block is available. This short block will come assemble with OEM pistons, rods, as well as the OEM short block with the bearings and all of the main seals.
If you hurt your motor to the point where you have rod knock, the road to rebuilding can be very labor-intensive. You or a mechanic will have to disassemble the motor and survey the damage. Send the block off to a machined shop and have the block cleaned, decked, and hot-tanked to remove any internal debris, and your cylinder walls will have to be inspected or re-bored to accept new pistons. Then re-assembly will have to happen where you have to double-check and triple-check bearing clearances, piston ring gap, along with installing all the seals, and it can take months depending on the circumstances. The assembled short block cuts a lot of the time out of the equation as the assembly and clearances have already been performed that makes the short block ready for immediate assembly.
Now the Type RA Short Block is the latest offering of the EJ engines. This particular short block will come with a forged crankshaft, along with stronger pistons that are slightly heavier and have piston crowns that are 2mm thicker. When compared to your conventional OEM STI short block, it will sustain more power.
